Let us gay people go – to the altar if we want to. Stop all this hypocritical talk about the “sanctity” of marriage. The truth is that even the witless heterosexuals who populate Fox television programs like “Married by America” have more legal rights in a married instant than gay couples who have been together for decades. Any idiot can get married and usually do so considering the high divorce rate in this county.
Civil unions do not afford the same protection under the law as marriages do. We know marriage works and committed gay couples need the legal protections that marriage affords. If a particular religious denomination doesn’t want to marry gays – don’t. As in adoptive families, a parent’s love for their child transcends biology; a gay or lesbian couple’s love does the same. Can we as a society afford to be so mean spirited and judgmental? Is the self-serving holier than thou satisfaction at saying no more important than allowing individuals to form committed unions? Let us have the dignity and respect as other tax paying individuals in our society deserve, let us get married.
