Regarding Gerald Black’s August 8 letter titled “Wasted money: County road project shows poor planning”: I live near 35th Avenue East in Mill Creek, and the improvement is very necessary. We all depend on this street to connect with 132nd Street. The only criticism I have is that the road should be a four-lane street due to its being a major connector between the Silver Lake and the Clearview/Maltby areas.
There are major housing developments that will add even more traffic to this congested corridor. The existing road is very narrow and dangerous, especially in the swamp area. It is unsafe for cyclists and pedestrians, most of whom are children. Pacific Topsoil is selling its existing site to developers and moving across the street to the peat mine. So yes, we will be making left turns into the peat bog.
