I have been employed at the Boeing Company for 15 years as an IAM member. The recent vote was, in my opinion, an “untrue” vote. In calling the union hall, I discovered that it was not easy to convince them of my personal opinion of asking for a re-vote. Obviously, the vote was swayed and is not a “true” assessment of the hourly workforce. I want to walk the line knowing that I am doing so on an accurate vote.
Likewise, I want to come back to work knowing that our voice was heard in truth. There were some members who did not cast a vote because they were informed of upcoming mediation. There were some members who re-thought and changed their vote, based on what they were told by our union. It does not matter to me that the votes are now counted and sealed, as they are tainted. What does matter is standing up and being counted for the truth. There will be no recount of votes, per the union. At least gie the “due-paying” members a chance to make that decision. Many of us are confused and more than that, I am less than pleased with the seemingly low integrity of our representation. The keyword is “representation” (of our union members).
