Thank you for the excellent July 2 front-page article, “Best defense against fire — officials seek help from homeowners.”
Many readers may think “your neighbor’s keeper” is just a religious expression, but if your effort to prevent fire saves your neighbor’s home also, then we all gain through reduced insurance rates and more families can celebrate Christmas in their safe homes.
Not all homeowners have timber, but unruly brush and waist-high dry grass can cause serious fires as happened at a barn wedding at which only two car burned — luckily from the prompt response of the local fire department. Snohomish County alone has 662,000 acres of timber; that’s a lot.
