Writer all wrong about vote effects

I read with interest the May 15 letter to the editor written by Clayton Carnell. Unfortunately, Mr. Carnell did not research the information he submitted to The Herald.

In his letter he states that “Fire District 8 wants to double their tax on property owners.” He further states, “On a $200,000 house, you now pay Fire District 8 $300 a year. With the new increase of $1.50 per $1,000 appraised value, this would be $600 a year – that’s double”.

Information obtained from the Snohomish County Assessor’s Office states the following facts: For the year 2002 on a $200,000 home you pay approximately $306. With a levy lid lift in 2003 you would pay approximately $388. This equates to an $82 increase. This is certainly not the $300 increase Mr. Carnell has projected. The last time Fire District 8 asked the voters to approve a levy lid lift was in 1982, which was approved at that time.

I would like to thank the citizens of Fire District 8 for their continued support. Should anyone have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us at 425-334-3034.
