This letter is in response to the Sept. 8 letter of Darral Good from Lynnwood (“War with Iraq: It’s all about profit for oil barons”) who opposes “the coming war for oil.” Unfortunately, Mr. Good is good at making blanket assertions about a war that is not raging and about the assumed motivations of a man that have absolutely no basis in fact.
Statements like “this war isn’t about people, it’s about profits for oil barons” show just how ignorant Mr. Good is about world affairs. I would like to know which war it is that Mr. Good is referring to. The last time I checked the United States was not at war with Iraq nor was “George W. Bush hurling Tomahawk missiles into the middle of Baghdad.”
I suppose Mr. Good would like the U.S. to ignore its own intelligence on the development of nuclear weapons in Iraq the same way Prime Minister Chamberlain ignored the threat of Adolf Hitler prior to his invasion of Poland in 1939.
If Mr. Good really believes that any attempt to oust Saddam Hussein (whether it includes Tomahawk missiles or not) is about oil then I suggest his next letter to the editor contain a few facts rather than mere speculation.
