I often wonder why my brother had to suffer so much toward the end of his life. I wish so very much he could have been able to dress himself, shower himself and get to the bathroom by himself. I wish that he could have been relaxed, not fearful, at the end of his life, and so frantic that we had to hold him, soothe him like a baby.
The look on my brother’s face will never leave my memory. I wish to God we could have made his dying process less painful, less cruel. I know that he would have wanted that.
I plead for you to vote yes on Initiative 1000. This yes vote will provide the people who are in terminal condition the right to a dignified, non-painful, non-fearful death. Their dying is inevitable. Your vote would be a gift of compassion.
In heartfelt memory of my brother, Phillip.
