What is the whole point to our entertainment industry? With the newest “Harry Potter” movie about to come out, I asked myself this question. While I have enjoyed the entire “Harry Potter” series, I have to say that I cannot support some of the morals that it portrays. In our society, it is completely fine to throw anything out into the spotlight, no matter how vile it is, and say that it is OK, only on the basis of it being entertainment. As a young person, I see that the entertainment we are getting is affecting us, and generally, not for the better.
To those who can do something about this, parents, I implore you to see that the things that go into children’s minds influence who they will one day be. If they fill their heads with garbage about violence, sex and drugs, what do you think will happen when they have to make their own decision about the matter? They will make the choice that is most strongly appealing to them, or what is most strongly set in them. So set a good, strong foundation in your children’s lives, for they are the leaders of tomorrow, and do you really want someone to be making your decisions who thinks killing people, sleeping around and getting high is fun to watch and do? I hope you say “no” and that you then work to enact a change in our world.
