Regarding the June 6 letter, “What does it take then to lose license?”:
The writer says that it’s time to retest all elderly drivers for drivers license as there are so many. She may want to consider this as to who should be retested. I’m a professional driver on the road six days a week and these are some of my observances:
Elderly drivers obeying the speed limit; obeying four-way stop rules; courteously allowing vehicles to merge onto the freeway; not speeding through parking lots; not flipping people off; not on cell phones; using their turn signals; waiting patiently to safely enter traffic and not barging in; not tailgating; not driving erratically; respecting the laws; etc. I hope you get the picture.
Granted, an elderly driver will make a mistake occasionally, but how many serious or fatal accidents do they cause? How many do the younger drivers cause? Remember, we will all be elderly drivers some day.
