2016 WHL bantam draft takes place today (Updated at 11:30 a.m.)

In case you missed it, the WHL handed outs its annual awards during a Wednesday afternoon luncheon in Calgary. Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart was named Goalie of the Year, becoming the first Tips goalie to win the award and the first Everett player to win a league-wide award since Kyle Beach won Rookie of the Year in 2007.

The awards serve to set up Thursday’s WHL bantam draft that begins at 7:30 a.m. Pacific Time. If you want to follow along, the league will stream the first round here. I’ll also be following it closely and you can follow me on Twitter @jessegeleynse. You can also follow along with the @whlprospects account that will be tweeting selections.

I had this story this story looking at the draft as a whole.

Update: 9:00 a.m.

The Silvertips took Sherwood Park, Alberta, forward Ethan Browne with their first pick at No. 13 overall.

Update: 11:30 a.m.

The draft is taking its lunch break, so I figured now is a good time to post the draft picks Everett has selected in the mean time:

– Mark Liwiski, F, Dauphin, Manitoba, third round, No. 58 overall

– Reece Vitelli, F, Winnipeg, Manitoba, fourth round, No. 83 overall

– Alex Moar, F, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, fifth round, No. 102 overall
