Hometown: Everett
High School: Everett ‘82
Sport(s): Football, basketball, baseball, golf, track
Career: Known for his days as the University of Washington quarterback and 18-year NFL career, Chandler’s exploits go beyond the gridiron. He led the Seagulls’ basketball team in scoring (21.5 points per game) as a senior, had a .425 batting average in baseball, and was an avid golfer and high jumper at Everett High. On the football field, he set the UW record for career touchdown passes, was a first-round draft pick who eventually played for eight teams and led the 1998 Atlanta Falcons to an improbable trip to the Super Bowl.
Postscript: Released by the St. Louis Rams in February, the 39-year-old Chandler is still looking for a job. He has played 18 NFL seasons and ranks among the NFL’s all-time leaders in pass attempts (32nd), completions (30th), passing yards (32nd) and touchdowns (44th). Sports Illustrated recently ranked him the state’s 34th-best athlete of all time.
