3 local basketball coaches set to enter WIBCA Hall of Fame

Nalin Sood, Larry Walker and Marv Morris will be inducted during a July 24 banquet in Mountlake Terrace.

Three local coaches are set to enter the Washington Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Assocation’s Hall of Fame.

Nalin Sood, Larry Walker and Marv Morris are three of the four coaches who will be inducted during WIBCA’s 43rd annual Hall of Fame banquet July 24 at Nile Country Club in Mountlake Terrace.

Sood has been Mountlake Terrace’s boys basketball head coach for the past 18 seasons, guiding the Hawks to a 277-159 record (63.5 winning percentage). He also was an assistant coach at the school for the previous 13 seasons.

Walker coached boys basketball at Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane for 10 seasons before spending 31 seasons as the men’s head coach at Everett Community College.

Morris coached boys basketball for 19 seasons at Shorecrest, King’s and Shorewood high schools. He compiled a 300-150 career record (66.7 winning percentage) and guided King’s to back-to-back Class 1A state titles in 2001 and 2002.

Joining the three local coaches will be longtime Tenino High School boys assistant Hal Williams, who will be inducted as an assistant coach.

Arlington High School boys coach Nick Brown will receive the Pat Fitterer “You Gotta Love It” award for his positive contributions to coaching.

The banquet will begin with a social hour at 5 p.m., followed by a buffet dinner and the induction ceremony. Tickets cost $30. RSVP one week prior to Dave Dickson at david.dickson@bellinghamschools.org.
