SEATTLE PREP (22-5) vs. O’DEA (20-7)
In perhaps the game of the day, Seattle Prep meets O’Dea at 12:15 p.m. in the 3A state quarterfinals at the Tacoma Dome.
Seattle Prep is ranked No. 1 in the state in the final Associated Press poll and the favorite to take the championship behind senior Mitch Brewe and D.J. Fenner. The Panthers (22-5) started to really click later on in the season, culminating with a Feb. 18 victory over Rainier Beach.
O’Dea is coming off a state regional victory over Lincoln. Dana Abe leads the charge for the Irish offensively. At 6-5, he commands attention from opponents in the post.
KAMIAKIN (22-1) vs. KENNEDY (23-1)
Kamiakin, the No. 2 ranked team in the state, and No. 6 Kennedy Catholic play the final 3A game of the day on Thursday.
The strength for Kamiakin are its two posts, Justin Pedley (6-6) and Zach En’Wezoh (6-7). Pedley leads the team averaging 19.5 points per game and En’Wezoh averages 12.5. The Braves, whose only loss of the season came to Kennewick, have a defense that grinds teams down as games progress.
Kennedy is coming off a state regional victory over Mercer Island and is led by Mitch Penner, who averages almost 24 ppg.
UNIVERSITY (19-4) vs. LAKE WASHINGTON (19-6)
Following Mountlake Terrace and Rainier Beach, will be Lake Washington and University at 10:30 a.m. Both teams are state-ranked and the matchup should be a good one.
University is led by Zech Martin, who averages nearly 14 points per game and over six rebounds. Martin is also very efficient, shooting better than 54 percent from the field.
Lake Washington boasts a 6-11 senior post by the name of Darien Nelson-Henry. When Nelson-Henry’s game is working inside, he opens up the floor for shooters like senior Matt Staudacher.
