Nathan Simunds matched his personal-best height earlier today in the 4A pole vault finals, but it wasn’t enough to make him a state champion.
The Stanwood senior topped out at 15 feet and placed second behind Inglemoor’s Ian Quinn, who cleared 15-3.
Simunds, who placed third last year, came in as the No. 1 seed in the event. But Quinn exceeded his previous best vault by 15 inches.
Simunds appeared on his way to clearing 15-3 on his first try at the height. He made it over the bar but knocked it off with his body on the way down.
