It’s all finally winding down here at the Tacoma Dome. I’m covering my last game of the week right now: Snohomish vs. Ballard in the girls’ four/seventh-place game. It’s halftime and Snohomish leads 24-22.
On the other court, Herald Writer John Boyle is keeping tabs on the Edmonds-Woodway boys, who are battling Lincoln for fourth place in that tourney. E-W is losing 30-26 after two quarters, and Warriors standout Connor Donaldson left the game with an apparent knee injury.
This week always zooms by. Sometimes I struggle to remember what day it is and what I did earlier in the morning. The Dome does that to reporters. It’s a pretty earsplitting, surreal, non-stop-action environment.
Don’t get me wrong: As far as jobs go, this is great. But I was definitely mentally drained by Day Three (yesterday). Obviously, my fatigue is nothing compared to the players and coaches who grind out four days of intense competition. Their effort is truly remarkable.
But just for fun, here’s a by-the-numbers breakdown of my busy week:
Miles driven: 480 (four round-trip commutes from Everett)
Games covered: 7
Approximate interviews with players and coaches: 21
Over-priced but decent-tasting turkey sandwiches consumed: 2
Approximate minutes spent in the Dome: 1,680
OK, I made that last one seem dramatic than it really is. I’ll have spent about 28 hours here this week by the time I leave today.
Wait … what day is it again?
