High school sports results sure are difficult to predict.
Coming into the 4A state tournament, it seemed the third-ranked Jackson girls basketball team had a great chance to at least advance to the semifinals by winning its first two games. The Timberwolves had won 21 consecutive contests and beat No. 4 Lake Stevens last weekend.
So much for expectations. Jackson (22-2) lost to a tough, tall Moses Lake team this evening. Sparked by the combined 39 points and 15 rebounds of sisters Carly and Ann Noyes, Moses Lake beat Jackson 63-57 in a first-round game at the Tacoma Dome.
Jackson put a lot of pressure on Moses Lake in the fourth quarter, but, like Timberwolves coach Jeannie Thompson said: “Unfortunately it was too little too late.”
Added Thompson, Moses Lake “had nothing to lose. We were the favorites going in and they just got to come and play. Our girls felt the pressure.”
Jackson plays Skyview (22-4) at noon tomorrow in a loser-out consolation contest.
Meanwhile, the area’s other girls teams, Snohomish and Lake Stevens, both won today. The Edmonds-Woodway boys were also Day One winners.
