COVINGTON — Despite scoring opportunities, Snohomish fell 4-0 to Tahoma in the first round of the 4A state girls soccer tournament.
The Tahoma offense shook up the Panthers early. Eventually they got their bearings, and two shots that were almost goals, but ultimately Snohomish couldn’t get on the board.
“They definitely lived up to all the hype that we read about them,” said Snohomish head coach April VanAssche. “They are very strong offensively. That kind of put us on our heals a little bit to start with.”
The Panthers had a shot deflected by the crossbar partway through the first half that would have made the halftime deficit more manageable, but as it stood, Snohomish went in to the locker room down 3-0.
During the break VanAssche told her team they had nothing to lose in the second half.
“At the end of 40 we wanted to leave an impression on ourselves and our fans as far as what we’re capable of and I definitely think we did that. … We’re not happy with a loss by any means but we’re proud of the girls for what they did this season.”
With the loss, the Panthers’ season is over, but they look to return almost intact, losing only seniors Morgan Green and Taylor Morrell.
