For Immediate release from Evergreen Speedway:

The weather was hot and the action was hotter at Evergreen Speedway. The first hornet main had a full field of cars and 26 took the green flag. Rick Palmer took an early lead and Chris Williamson and Cody Koroshes just didn’t have enough to run him done. In the 2nd hornet main event 28 cars took the green and it was all Dave Stewart, Josh Young and David Dixon rounded out the top 3.

Finishing order for the hornets at this time is unofficial and under review. Brian Cottrell took home the trophy for the Renegade V8 division. The youth hornets had a good turnout. The class is growing every time the kids hit the track. 13 of the youngsters lined up to take the green. A lot of contact and crashing kept the flag man busy.

Mr. Dizzy, Mike Buse, once again put on an incredible display of courage taking a school bus up the ramp at a high rate of speed and launched into the air over about 80 feet of motor homes and school buses. Dizzy landed his but right in the middle of a motor home and debris went everywhere. Mr. Dizzy was quoted “It was like landing on a pillow”

“The Beast” jet dragster put on an awesome display of power and heat. Using 30 gallons of fuel, he melted the “Battle Wagon” gauntlet car to the ground. This did put our fire fighters on their toes, with fires to put out both in the infield and in the grass. Jeff Atamian owner and driver of “The Beast” truly enjoyed and being here at the speedway and has asked to return next year.

Also on hand was the rollover contest won by Nick Williams with a total of 6 and ¾’s rolls. Nick had to use his brother’s car for the second pass due to the damage sustained to his vehicle on the first pass where he went for a toss of 5 and ¾’s rolls.

The boat race was won by Steve Schoenfeldt by using the strategy of an aluminum boat against the traditional fiberglass. Lance O’Grain won the school bus race.

The demo derby was a battle or determination right down to the end. 15 drivers signed the sheet for the derby. The best appearing award went to the Queen Bee Kathy Clark in the 822 (BZZ). There were plenty of big hits early and the many from the field had their night end quickly. Towards the end Mike Johnson, Joey Ensminger, Randy Makowsky and Troy Miller battled to the end, with Johnson getting the big check.

The incredible night was topped off with a fireworks show that left everyone in attendance in awe. Shell after shell exploded in the night sky and went on and on. The finale lit up the sky to the delight of spectators.
