TACOMA – Senior guard Katelan Redmon scored 18 points and defending champ Lewis &Clark used a 9-0 fourth-quarter run to secure another title as it beat the University Titans 39-34 Saturday night in the championship game at the 4A girls basketball tournament.
The Tigers (26-3) became the fifth school in the 33-year history of the tournament to win consecutive titles. The Titans (26-3) were looking for their first crown.
With the score tied at 28, the Tigers began their run with a 3-pointer by Lyndi Seidensticker with 5:45 to go. Redmon scored four points in the spurt, including a basket with 3:15 to go that made the score 37-28.
Kentwood 63, Prairie 51: At Tacoma, senior guard Courtney Vandersloot capped a brilliant tournament with 24 points to lead Kentwood to its first 4A trophy as the Conquerors beat Prairie for third place.
Vandersloot’s 24 points gave her 113 for four days, just one off the 4A tournament mark of 114 set by Garfield’s Joyce Walker in 1980.
Vandersloot also had five rebounds, four assists and six steals. Kentwood’s only blemish was a 60-57 semifinal loss to University on Friday.
