For the first time in what seems like forever, players were in a good mood meeting with the media Monday, which was a nice change of pace for us.
A few bits to pass on from today.
Louis Rankin was named the Pac-10’s co-offensive player of the week with Oregon QB Dennis Dixon for his 255-yard performance. Obviously, he was also the Huskies offensive player of the week. Greyson Gunsheim was named defensive player of the week, and Jay Angotti earned special teams honors.
Nothing major on the injury front, though the status of safety Nate Williams is still up in the air because of a hamstring injury that took him out of the Stanford game. Sophomore linebacker Donald Butler, who has been out with knee injury since the Oregon game, is not on the depth chart and is unlikely to be ready this week.
Jake Locker, who was icing his right shoulder and left elbow after the game, is expected to be fine, Willingham said.
Curtis Shaw, a freshman tailback, ran a few plays at receiver during warm ups for Satruday’s game. Willingham confirmed that they are looking at using him at that position, but did not go as far as to say he has been moved from tailback.
The Corvallis Gazette Times has this story on Oregon State’s injury problems. On a conference call today, Beavers coach Mike Riley said that running back Yvenson Bernard, who missed Oregon State’s last game with a shoulder injury, will likely be back to face Washington. Quarterback Sean Canfield injured his throwing shoulder Saturday, and Riley today said it was “doubtfull” that the sophomore would be ready this week.
The Oregonian also covers the Beavers, and has more on the injuries amongst other things.
And if you missed it today and Sunday, here’s our coverage of Washington’s win over Stanford.
