A "serious" Monday

Not surprisingly, Monday wasn’t a happy day at Seahawks headquarters following a 42-24 loss, the team’s fourth in five games. What it was, Pete Carroll said, was an honest day and a serious day.

“We had a real serious meeting today to get us on track,” he said.

Added QB Matt Hasselbeck: “I would say it was very honest, very serious and very blunt. Our team meetings are always different, they’re never the same, and today was basically, say it how it is.”

Among the many things the Seahawks are trying to fix is their defense, and in particular the run defense that not so long ago ranked among the best in the league. Carroll said one of the biggest culprits in the run defense is players trying to do too much when things aren’t going well.

“We have to be more disciplined,” he said.

The good news for Seattle, however, is that despite the recent struggles, the 5-6 Seahawks are still tied for first in the NFC West. For now, however, fixing the problems is more important that focusing on a division race.

“Oh, it’s real normal,” Hasselbeck said sarcastically when asked about being in first place with a losing record. ” Yeah, hey, it’s weird, but right now I don’t think this team is focused on the division. What we need to focus on is just getting better and improving and fixing our errors and figure out who we are and getting an identity… There’s a lot of stuff we need to do first to get that done.”

As for injuries, always a topic of conversation Monday, it appears the Seahawks at least got out of Sunday’s debacle without any significant new injuries. C Chris Spencer has a bruised ankle, but should be OK, Carroll said, and CB Marcus Trufant, who left the game with an ankle injury then returned, should also be fine.

A timetable on WR Mike Williams still isn’t known, Carroll said: “We’ve got to wait and see. Today they looked at him and there wasn’t a lot of improvement. We’re going to have to go day to day, and we’ll rest him until he’s ready to run fast, until he can really go.”

FB Michael Robinson is expected to make it back this week, while it sounds like DT Colin Cole is still going to be out with an ankle injury.
