Goddard Stadium in Everett, where the Mariner and Kamiak High School football teams play home games, got a major makeover before this season. The decade-old, extremely worn-out AstroTurf at Goddard was torn out and replaced by a synthetic FieldTurf surface.
Coaches and players have had nothing but positive things to say about the new turf. But Mariner quarterback Tyler Tuiasosopo didn’t want to completely forget the decrepit AstroTurf, which he and his teammates created many memories on. So when crews removed the old stuff Tuiasosopo took a large chunk of it and transplanted it to his garage.
Now the QB can play on a nice field, but when he’s at home he and his friends can enjoy a special reminder of old times.
“When we walk in and we see it, it’s tradition,” Tuiasosopo said last month. “It brings back a lot of memories.”
