INDIANAPOLIS — Colombian driver Sebastian Saavedra, the 18-year-old ATS Formula 3 rookie of the year last season, will drive for AFS/Andretti Green Racing in the Indy Racing League’s developmental Firestone Indy Lights series.
He will join J.R. Hildebrand, who was signed by the team at the end of the 2008 season.
Saavedra, of Bogota, was the Formula 3 runner-up last season. He also had three wins in the German championship, two wins in the Austrian series and four pole positions.
Team co-owner Michael Andretti said Thursday Saavedra is a “young and talented” driver who is willing to learn whatever is necessary to compete at a high level.
