Here’s an interesting little article and picture of an albino deer courtesy Roger Phillips of the Idaho Statesman:
“One of the Boise Foothills’ most famous mule deer has survived another winter, at least so far.
“In 2008, we ran a photo of two albino deer, a doe and fawn, together in the same herd.
Both might still be out there, but living separately. If both are still alive, they would be full grown and indistinguishable from each other.“Seeing them together would the only way to know for sure.
“There’s been photos and reports of albino deer in the Foothills going back to 2007.
“Obviously, there are albino genes in the Foothills’ herd, and it’s amazing that we’ve been treated to seeing them for so many years.
“I’ve probably seen tens of thousands of mule deer throughout the West, and I have never seen an albino other than those I’ve spotted in the Boise Foothills.
“They are not hard to spot, but I’m still taken aback. I’ve mistaken them for goats, horses, patches of snow, white plastic bags, and then quickly realize it’s the albino deer again. It never gets old.”
