The Seahawks returned to action after getting Monday off, and several starters were on the sideline, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. As Pete Carroll mentioned following Saturday’s preseason game, all three starting linebackers came out of the game dinged up, and indeed Aaron Curry, David Hawthorne and Leroy Hill were all on the sideline. All three have sore knees, according to Carroll, and while Curry and Hill are likely to play in this weekend’s game, Hawthorne likely will not. With the starters sidelined, rookies Malcolm Smith and Mike Morgan saw time with No. 1 defense at weakside and strongside, respectively, while K.J. Wright and Matt McCoy both got a look at middle linebacker.
Strong Safety Kam Chancellor also sat out with a foot injury.
There was good news for the Seahawks on the injury front, however, as CB Walter Thurmond practiced for the first time in more than three weeks. Thurmond, who is coming back from an ankle sprain, projects as a likely starter at corner opposite Marcus Trufant, so getting him some reps between now and the season opener is vital to the Seahawks. He should see playing time in this weekend’s game, Carroll said.
LT Russell Okung continues to make progress from his ankle injury, and did a little bit of work early in practice in individual drills. He won’t play this weekend, Carroll said, but has not been ruled out for the final preseason game against Oakland.
TE John Carlson (shoulder) will likely sit out again this weekend, but could be back for the final preseason game, Carroll said.
