Greetings to all from Oahu. For those Husky fans who wanted to make the trip but couldn’t, take solace in the fact that it’s been raining all morning over here (then again, it is still about 80 degrees).
Obviously this game is huge over here. It’s been fun so far, I’ve met plenty of diehard Hawaii fans, plus a couple of conflicted fans. One guy sitting in front of me on the flight over is torn because he’s from Hawaii, but a UW grad. Later last night, I met a bartender who had the opposite problem. He was born and raised in western Washington and was a big UW fan, but he came to Honolulu for school and has since become a big Hawaii fan. It seems the prevailing wisdom for the conflicted fans is that the game means a lot more to Hawaii, so they’re all rooting for the Warriors, so that’s a few less Husky fans this weekend.
Anyway, here are a few links for Huskies and Warriors coverage. We had this story on the limited history between Washington and Hawaii. John Sleeper also weighed in on the Huskies with this column on the Willingham situation. Though as he points out in his blog, getting verbal commitments from Kavario Middleton, regarded as the top recruit in the state, and his HS teammate Javone Kearse, should take some pressure off of Willingham.
Here’s the Honolulu Advertiser’s coverage, which includes a column on Tyrone Willingham, as well as a story on quarterback Colt Brennan.
Well would you look at that. While I was writing this, the rain stopped and the sun is coming out. Off to the beach.
