And we’re off…

This first blog entry would have come much earlier, but the fine folks at Seatac International Airport actually think it’s acceptable to charge $9.95 for wireless Internet access.

They say it’s good for 24 hours, but you can only use it in the place where you ordered it. I’m going to go out on a limb and say that most people don’t spend 24 hours in the same airport.

Since we were about an hour and a half early for our flight, that Internet access works out to roughly $7.50 per hour. The Herald probably would’ve covered it, but that kind of cash could go toward next year’s raise, so…

We’re in Detroit now.

The Herald’s journey to Super Bowl XL with the Seattle Seahawks, via Dallas, is officially underway.

We arrived at Seatac at 4:15 a.m. for a 6:15 a.m. flight to Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport. (From the northwest corner of the nation, to the south, back up toward the northeast — I’m calling it the “V” for victory route.)

I-5 was so empty, it looked like it might have been shut down. On the way out of town, I took one last look at the “12th Man” flag still flying high above the Space Needle.

Things were looking good when the “departures” screen at the airport read “Go Hawks” at the top.

I really am not trying to read into every little thing this week like some paranoid, superstitious nervous wreck, but I’ll share this: The in-flight movie from Seattle to Dallas was “Just Like Heaven,” starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo.

It’s one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen, but “Heaven” is the name of Shaun Alexander’s daughter, so that’s gotta mean something good, right?

(The carpets on the jetway in Dallas were blue, by the way.)

That’s all, for now.

I’ve got to write something for that newspaper that sent me out here.
