EVERETT — Garrett Spain hit a go-ahead grand slam in the top of the ninth inning as the Vancouver Canadians rallied for an 8-5 win over the Everett AquaSox on Wednesday night at Funko Field.
Spain finished his monster night at the plate 4-for-5 with two home runs, a double and six RBI.
The AquaSox carried a two-run lead into the final inning mostly on the back of Axel Sanchez, who homered, doubled and drove in four runs in the game.
Jimmy Joyce made his second start of the season for Everett (26-27) and allowed no runs on just one hit with five strikeouts in three strong innings of work. Michael Flynn took the loss allowing all five Canadians runs in the ninth on four hits.
Former AquaSox pitcher and Seattle Mariners prospect Adam Macko started for Vancouver (28-24) and allowed five runs, three earned, on four hits in three innings. Macko was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays organization in Seattle’s offseason deal for Teoscar Hernandez.
