AquaSox, Canadians set to battle for NWL championship

Here’s a look at how the two teams match up heading into Tuesday’s series opener.

EVERETT — It’s been a long time since Everett’s Northwest League entry won a championship.

Just twice since Everett joined the Northwest League in 1984 has the team lifted the championship trophy. Everett won the title as the Giants in 1984, then again as the AquaSox in 2010. The last time the Sox even played for the championship was in 2016.

Everett has a chance to end its long wait when the Sox face the Vancouver Canadians in the best-of-five championship series beginning Tuesday at Funko Field. Vancouver, as the first-half champion, will potentially have three home games in the series, while second-half champion Everett will host the first two.

“Vancouver is a really good team, they’ve been really good all year,” Everett manager Ryan Scott said. “They won the first half and then were still in the race for the second half, which you don’t see a lot in the minors. Sometimes the team that wins the first half has players called up and falls off. Credit to Vancouver, they lost some big arms and bats that got called up, but they’re still a really good baseball team, and you know every time you play them it’s going to be a competitive series.”

Here’s how the teams match up:
