AquaSox can’t complete big comeback in loss to Emeralds

Everett falls behind by seven runs early and closes to within a run before losing to Eugene 10-9.

EVERETT — The Eugene Emeralds raced out to a seven-run lead after 2.5 innings and hung on to beat the Everett AquaSox 10-9 on Friday night at Funko Field.

Everett rallied with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut Eugene’s lead to one, but couldn’t quite pull off the big comeback.

Joseph Rosa went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and three RBI to lead the AquaSox offense. Tyler Keenan added a solo home run, Victor Labrada went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in and Justin Lavey doubled and drove in two runs.

Tim Elliott started on the mound for Everett (49-25) and settled down after a rough beginning. Elliott allowed eight runs over the first three innings, but closed with two scoreless frames before giving the ball over to the bullpen. Kyle Hill tossed 2.1 scoreless innings for the AquaSox in relief.

Franklin Labour went 3-for-5 with a home run and four runs batted in, and Sean Roby, Tyler Flores and Brett Auerbach also homered for Eugene (43-32).
