KEIZER, Ore. — Tuesday’s Northwest League baseball game began on a high note for the Everett AquaSox. The music wasn’t so sweet thereafter.
Salem-Keizer’s Brice Cutspec broke a tie with his sixth-inning solo home run and the Volcanoes posted a 4-3 win.
Bryan Leigh (0-2), who began the inning in relief of starter Stephen Kohlscheen, took the loss.
Everett had half its hits and all its runs in the top half of the first inning. Mario Yepez began the rally with a one-out double. He scored on a single by Jharmidy De Jesus, who scored on James Woods’ home run, his fourth.
Salem-Keizer came right back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning. on four singles.
Leonardo Ochoa and Joseph Panik had hits to put runners at first and third. Ochoa scored on a single by Mike Murray and Panik scored on a single by Joseph Staley.
The Volcanoes tied the score in the third on Panik’s one-out single and Murray’s ensuing double.
Everett stranded two baserunners in the second inning and had just one more hit, Ramon Morla’s two-out single in the third.
Morla stole second and third but Ethan Paquette struck out to end the inning.
Patrick Brady was hit by a pitch in the seventh but was cut down trying to steal second.
Jarrett Burgess walked in the eighth and was sacrificed to second. An out later, he stole third, but Woods grounded out.
The Frogs went 1-2-3 in the ninth.
