EVERETT — Jorge Benitez halted a late Hillsboro rally with back-to-back strikeouts to end the game as the Everett AquaSox held on for a 9-8 win over the Hops in the second-to-last game of the season for both teams.
Robert Perez Jr. went 3-for-5 with two home runs and five RBI, Spencer Packard doubled twice and Marysville Pilchuck alum Trent Tingelstad drove in two runs for the AquaSox.
Juan Mercedes started on the mound for Everett (59-71) and allowed three runs on five hits in five innings. Mercedes struck out seven and did not allow a walk.
Fox Semones and Adrian Del Castillo each homered in the game for Hillsboro (59-70)
The AquaSox and Hops meet in the final game of the season at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Funko Field.
