PASCO — Luis Liberato saved the Everett AquaSox by throwing out Tri-City’s tying run at the plate to end a two-run eighth inning for the Dust Devils and allowing the Sox to get by with a 6-3 win on Friday night at Gesa Stadium.
After Drew Jackson’s successful squeeze bunt in the top of the frame scored Ryan Uhl to expand Everett’s lead to 4-1, the Dust Devils scored a run each off relievers Lance Thonvold and Kyle Wilcox to narrow the gap to a single run.
Carlos Belen singled to Liberato in left as Peter Van Gansen raced home, but Liberato cut him down at the plate to end the threat.
A two-run double by Yojhan Quevedo in the top of the ninth gave Everett some much-needed insurance runs and Wilcox negotiated around a one-out walk in the bottom of the ninth for his seventh save.
Second baseman Erick Mejia went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases to help Everett’s cause.
