YAKIMA — Everett couldn’t hold an early 2-0 lead as Yakima rallied for five runs in the game’s second half and beat the AquaSox 5-3
Everett scored twice in the top of the second inning at Yakima County Stadium. James Wood led off with a double left field and scored one out later on the first
of two triples in the game by Jabari Blash — this one hit to right field.
Blash scored on a wild pitch by Yakima starter Adam Kudryk with Marcus Littlewood at the plate. Littlewood eventually walked and moved to second on Michael Dowd’s single to right field. The threat ended when the next batter, Ethan Paquette grounded into double play.
Yakima couldn’t capitalize on a scoring chance in the third innning when the Bears had runners on second and third base with one out. Raul Navarro flied to Everett center fielder Jarrett Burgess. The Bears’ Tyson Van Winkle was thrown out at home trying to score on the play.
The Frog’s 2-0 lead evaporated in the bottom of the fifth inning when Yakima scored three runs.
Yakima’s Justin Hilt led off with a walk. Tyler Bream folowed with a single to right field. Van Winkle moved the runners along with a sacrifice bunt and Daniel Pulfer followed with a two-RBI double to left field to tie the score.
Westley Moss broke the tie with a single to left, scoring Pulfer and giving the Bears a 3-2 lead.
Everett battled back in the top of the sixth. Ramon Morla hita one-out single and then moved to second on a wild pitch with Blash at the plate. Blash then hit his second triple of the game to tie the score.
At that point, the Bears went to their bullpen and brought in reliever Michael Blake, who struck out Littlewood and got Dowd to line out to right field.
Yakima took advantage of Everett’s pitching change in the bottom of the seventh, scoring two runs off Sox reliever Cody Weiss. Weiss replaced starter Jordan Shipers, who went six innings.
Van Winkle led off the inning with a line-drive single to center field and advanced to second base on Pulfer’s sacrifice bunt. Moss hit an RBI-single, then stole second and scored two batters later on Garrett Weber’s soft line drive to left field
Everett pulled Weiss and brought in reliever Max Krakowiak, who ended the threat by inducing Henry Zabala to ground into double play.
