VANCOUVER, B.C. — If the AquaSox were growing tired of losing close games, they sure didn’t get any relief Monday night.
Vancouver’s J.D. Pruitt avoided a tag at home in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the Canadians a 3-2 Northwest League victory against the Frogs at Nat Bailey Stadium. It was the third time in four outings that Everett has lost by two runs or less, and dropped the AquaSox to 5-9 overall.
Both teams put plenty of runners on base, but failed to score in four straight innings going into the 10th with the game locked in a 2-2 tie. In the bottom half of the inning, Pruitt drew a leadoff walk and then stole second with two outs. Dusty Napoleon then singled to center field. Everett center fielder Kevin Reynolds’ throw to home was just behind the slide of Pruitt.
Bobby LaFramboise got the start for the Frogs and lasted five innings, allowing two runs off of five hits. Aaron Brown took over in the sixth inning and threw three scoreless inning, and was relieved by Javier Martinez in the ninth. Martinez picked up the loss, falling to 0-1.
Vancouver jumped on top early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first off of a walk, two singles and a double. Everett countered in the top of the fifth with two runs, as Reynolds had a double and Fleming Baez a run-scoring single in the inning.
The Frogs had nine hits in the game, as Reynolds went 2-for-5 and also scored a run.
Aside from hitting the game-winner, Napoleon was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI for Vancouver.
