AquaSox lose 3rd straight

BOISE, Idaho – Josh Donaldson consigned the Everett AquaSox to their longest losing streak of the season.

Donaldson hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Boise Hawks defeated the AquaSox 8-7 Thursday night in a Northwest League game.

With two out and nobody on, Donaldson smacked a solo shot to left field off reliever Brandon McKerney, handing Everett (9-8) its first three-game losing streak of the season.

Jonathan Wyatt went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, Marquez Smith was 2-for-5 with five RBI, and Steve Vento earned the win in relief for Boise (5-12), which has won more games (three) in this series than it did in its previous 13 (two). The five-game series concludes tonight.

Ogui Diaz, Matt Mangini, Edilio Colina and Kalian Sams each had two hits for the Sox. McKerney took the loss.

Everett starting pitcher Juan Ramirez lived on the edge throughout his outing before finally falling off in the fourth. He lasted just 31/3 innings, giving up seven runs on six hits and four walks.

Everett took the lead right at the start, tallying in the top of the first. Diaz reached on a bunt single and came around to score on Mangini’s double into the corner in left, staking the Sox to a 1-0 lead.

Boise tied it in the bottom of the inning, Smith’s infield single scoring Wyatt from third to make it 1-1.

Everett scored two more in the second. Sams drove home the first with a sacrifice fly and Diaz scored the second on a single to left, making it 3-1.

Boise got back within one in the third, Wyatt leading off with a triple and scoring on Smith’s groundout to make it 3-2.

Ramirez unraveled in the fourth. He loaded the bases with nobody out on two walks and a hit batter. He walked the tying run in and gave up a bases-clearing triple to Smith. Smith scored on a fielder’s choice as Boise surged to a 7-3 lead.

Everett’s offense bailed Ramirez out in the fifth, collecting five hits to tie the score at 7-7. Colina had a two-run single and Jeff Dunbar added a two-run double, both with two out.
