PASCO — Everett starting pitcher Lars Huijer tossed a gem to record his second win of the season as the AquaSox shutout the Tri-City Dust Devils 2-0 in a lightning fast pitcher’s duel on Wednesday.

Huijer pitched seven scoreless innings, gave up four hits, walked one, hit three batters, and struck out nine. The nine strikeouts were a season-high, and one better than the eight he notched over his first two starts.

The AquaSox (11-2) put together a two-run seventh inning that proved to be all the scoring they needed.

Tri-City starter Johendi Jiminian, who the Sox had failed to threaten through six, began the seventh by hitting Jamodrick McGruder with a 2-0 pitch. A fly ball by Jack Reinheimer allowed McGruder to move to second.

D.J. Peterson then broke the scoreless tie, hitting a 2-1 pitch to the wall and driving in McGruder. Peterson leads Everett with 9 RBI on the season.

A wild pitch to Justin Seager went all the way to the backstop, allowing Peterson to advance to third, then Jiminian walked Seager. With two outs, Phillips Castillo hit a shallow popup down the right-field line that no one could get to. Peterson scored on the play but the inning ended when Castillo was thrown out trying to reach second.

Min-Sih Chen pitched a 1-2-3 eight for the Sox and Aaron Brooks struck out two in the ninth on his way to the save.

Jiminian faced the minimum through six and no AquaSox player reached third safely until McGruder scored in the seventh.

Everett improved to 5-0 on the road this season and finished off Tri-City in just 2 hours, 9 minutes.
