AquaSox pound out 14 hits in win over Volcanoes

Everett remains in the hunt for the 1st-half division title with an 8-2 victory over Salem-Keizer.

EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox remain in the hunt for the Northwest League’s North Division first-half championship.

The AquaSox defeated the visiting Salem-Keizer Volcanoes 8-2 before 3,488 fans Saturday at Everett Memorial Stadium.

Everett (15-14) entered Saturday’s game tied with Vancouver atop the North Division standings and in possession of the tiebreaker should they finish the first half tied based on head-to-head record. The Frogs have won three of four against the Volcanoes with the series finale at 4:05 p.m. Sunday.

Orlando Razo (1-2) earned his first win of the season as he pitched six strong innings, fanned three and scattered six hits while allowing only one run.

Everett erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Nick Rodriguez singled in Ryan Garcia, and Cash Gladfelter followed with a two-run single that scored Rodriguez and Jansiel Rivera for a 3-1 lead.

Nico Giarratano doubled in Aaron Bond to give Salem-Keizer a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning, but was thrown out attempting to stretch the hit into a triple.

The AquaSox broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the seventh. They opened the inning with four straight hits, and Ryne Ogren drove in two with an RBI single through a drawn-in infield. Ogren scored on a balk, and Geoandry Montilla scored on a sacrifice fly by Rodriguez.

Salem-Kezier got one back in the eighth when Robinson Medrano doubled in Kevin Rivera with two outs to make it 7-2.

Everett answered in the bottom of the inning when Connor Kopach singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ogren.

Kopach and Ryan Ramiz each finished 3-for-5. Ramiz doubled and Kopach scored twice. Garcia, Rodriguez and Gladfelter each had a pair of hits as the Frogs pounded out 14 hits in the contest.

Everett finished 3-for-9 with runners in scoring position and stranded eight.

Norwith Gudino (3-3) took the loss for Salem-Keizer. He allowed eight hits and three runs while fanning five in 5 2/3 innings of work.
