HILLSBORO, Ore. — Eric Filia scored the game’s only run on a ground out in the fourth inning as the Everett AquaSox topped the Hillsboro Hops 1-0 in Northwest League baseball action Sunday.
Filia led off the fourth with a double and advanced to third on a single by Nick Thurman. He scored on a ground out by Johan Quevedo.
The Hops threatened in the bottom of the ninth, but relief pitcher Marvin Gorgas struck out Luke Lowery with runners on first and second to end the game and earn his second save of the season.
Matthew Festa (2-2) collected the win for Everett with four innings of two-hit relief. Trevor Simms (2-2) took the loss for Hillsboro.
The Hops were held shut out for the fourth time this season, while the AquaSox pitching staff recorded its fourth shutout of the year.
Everett returns home Monday to open a three-game series against Tri-City. Monday’s game is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
