VANCOUVER, B.C. – Everett’s Jermaine Brock hit a two-out single to left field in the top of the ninth to score two runs and lead the AquaSox to a 7-5 Northwest League victory over Vancouver Canadians Thursday night.
The AquaSox (18-25) swept the three-game series at Nat Bailey Stadium and have a four-game winning streak.
Everett’s Deybis Benitez walked to start the ninth. Ogui Diaz followed by reaching base on a Vancouver fielding error. After a sacrifice bunt from Edilio Colina advanced both runners, the Canadians intentionally walked Leonardo Espinal to load the bases for Brock.
The AquaSox got physical in the top of the fourth inning.
With runners on second and third and Benitez batting, Wellington Dotel stole home, barreling over Vancouver catcher Julio Rivera to give Everett a 4-2 lead.
Canadians pitcher Lance Sewell then tried to pick Joseph Dunigan off second base by throwing to shortstop Walter Correa. Dunigan slid back to the base safe and was trying to stand up as Correa tried to push him off the base setting off a bench- and bullpen-clearing episode of pushing and shoving.
After order was restored without an ejection, Dunigan scored on a Benitez single to left field to make it 5-2 AquaSox.
Vancouver answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to make it 5-4 Sox. J.D. Pruitt hit an RBI triple to center field with two outs, and scored on a Michael Richard single.
Everett’s Craig Hurba evened the score at 2-2 with a two-run home run in the top of the second inning. Manelik Pimentel led off the inning with a line-drive single to center field.
Vancouver took advantage of an unsteady start by AquaSox pitcher Robert Harmon to score two runs in the first inning. After Harmon hit two batters, Vancouver’s Daniel Hamblin hit a two-run double to give the Canadians an early 2-0 advantage.
