VANCOUVER, B.C. — The Everett AquaSox didn’t waste any time getting back on the winning track.
Everett scored the game’s final six runs as they defeated the Vancouver Canadians 7-3 Monday night.
Jamodrick McGruder went 2-for-4 with three runs as Everett (15-3) bounced back a day after having a seven-game winning streak come to an end.
Jack Reinheimer added three hits and DJ Peterson drove in three runs for Everett, which increased its lead atop the Northwest League’s North Division to five games over Vancouver.
Sox starting pitcher Rigoberto Garcia ran his record to 3-0 with seven solid innings. He allowed three runs on five hits and one walk, striking out one. Jose Valdivia was perfect over the final two innings to pick up his second save.
Dickie Thon went 2-for-4 to lead the Canadians (10-8).
Everett trailed 3-1 through two innings, but the Sox gradually chipped away, scoring a run in the third and fifth innings to tie it up. Everett then took the lead in the top of the seventh. James Zamarripa led off with a single and worked his way to third base with two out. Reinheimer then laid a perfect bunt down the third-base line. Reinheimer beat out the bunt, and Zamarripa scored on the play to give the Sox a 4-3 lead.
Everett added insurance in the ninth to put the game away. With two on and nobody out, Vancouver third baseman David Harris threw away Reinheimer’s sacrifice bunt, allowing one run to score. Another run scored on Peterson’s groundout to third, then a third came home on Justin Seager’s single to center, giving the Sox a secure four-run lead.
