AquaSox’s bats go cold in shutout loss to Dust Devils

Everett musters just four total hits in a 2-0 loss to Tri-City.

EVERETT — Straton Podaras hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to break up a scoreless tie and the Tri-City Dust Devils held on to beat the Everett AquaSox 2-0 on Friday night at Funko Field.

Juan Mercedes started on the mound for the AquaSox and carried a perfect game into the fifth inning before an Edwin Yon single with two outs ended the streak at 14 straight batters retired.

Mercedes pitched seven innings and allowed no runs on just three hits while striking out seven and walking none.

Spencer Packard had two hits for Everett (29-31), which was held to just four total base hits in the game.

Jose Salvador struck out five and allowed no runs on four hits in seven innings for Tri City (27-30).
