EVERETT — The Everett AquaSox saw their five-game winning streak snapped Saturday as the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes came from behind to win 11-7 before 4,199 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The Northwest League North Division second half-leading AquaSox are now 11-5 in the second half and 29-25 overall. The Volcanoes improved to 6-10 and 23-31.
Heath Quinn finished 4-for-4 with three RBI, while Kevin Rivera was 3-for-5 with three runs and two RBI. Ryan Howard drove in three while Manuel Geraldo scored three times to lead Salem-Keizer.
Kendry Melo allowed one run and struck out three in 2 1/3 innings of relief to earn the win.
The Volcanoes took the lead for good in the fourth when they snapped a 5-5 tie on Rivera’s two-run homer. Salem-Keizer added another run on a wild pitch to take an 8-5 lead.
Johmbeyker Morales’ RBI double scored David Greer in the fifth, but the Volcanoes countered in the top of the sixth with a two-out RBI single by Quinn to make it 9-6.
Bryson Brigman’s RBI groundout cut the deficit to 9-7 in the seventh, but the Volcanoes added two more in the eighth to push the lead to 11-7.
The Volcanoes erased a 4-1 deficit with four runs in the top of the third. Quinn and Gio Brusa had RBI doubles and Howard drove in a run with a groundout to give Salem-Keizer a 5-4 lead.
Dimas Ojeda’s hard grounder up the middle hit the second base bag and caromed into right field allowing David Greer to score the tying run and putting runners at the corners with one out in the bottom of the third.
Salem-Keizer starter Matt Krook struggled with his control as he walked the first three Everett hitters in the bottom of the first. Nick Zammarelli immediately cashed in as he hit a towering fly ball over the fence in right-center for a grand slam that gave the AquaSox a 4-0 lead.
Howard’s solo home run put Salem-Keizer on the board in the second.
The series continues at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at Everett Memorial Stadium. Brandon Miller will start for Everett against Raffi Vizcaino for the Volcanoes.
