AquaSox’s win streak snapped in 5-2 loss at Spokane

SPOKANE — The Spokane Indians put an end to the Everett AquaSox’s six-game winning streak with a 5-3 win before 4,535 fans Wednesday at Avista Stadium.

It was the first loss of the second half for Everett (2-1 second half, 19-22 overall).

Spokane climbed to 2-1 in the second half and 17-23 overall with the victory.

The teams play the rubber match of the three-game series tonight at 6:30 p.m.

The Indians turned a one-run lead into a 4-0 advantage while chasing Everett starter Anjul Hernandez in the bottom of the fourth.

Austin O’Banion led off with a solo homer to left and Miguel Aparicio later had a two-run single, and that was all for Hernandez.

Ronald Rosario got one back for the Frogs in the top of the fifth with a solo homer to right, but Curtis Terry’s solo homer leading off the bottom of the sixth pushed Spokane’s lead back to four.

Joseph Rosa’s RBI single in the seventh cut the deficit to three and Eugene Helder’s two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth scored Joe Venturino to make it 5-3, but Spokane’s Joseph Kuzia got Johnny Adams to ground out to end the game.

Miguel Aparicio led off the bottom of the first with a walk and scored on a sacrifice fly by O’Banion to give Spokane a 1-0 lead.

Tyree Thompson (2-1) earned the win as he scattered eight hits and allowed two earned runs in six-plus innings.

Hernandez took the loss for Everett as he allowed four earned runs on six hits in 32⁄3 innings.

Rosario finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, and Rosa had two hits including a double.

Trio of Frogs named NWL All-Stars

It was announced Wednesday that infielder Rosa, catcher David Banuelos and pitcher Andres Torres had been named to the midseason Northwest League All-Star team. The trio will participate in next week’s NWL-Pioneer League All-Star Game at Ron Tonkin Field in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Rosa is expected to be a starter after entering Wednesday’s game slashing .307/.385/.569 with six homers and 26 RBI in 37 games with Everett.

Banuelos is the reigning NWL Player of the Week while Torres leads the league with five wins.
