Archbishop Murphy 8-0 after win over Coupeville

EVERETT – Despite the absence of team rushing leader Jevon Butler, Archbishop Murphy earned a 55-16 Northwest A League victory over Coupeville on Saturday.

Archbishop Murphy’s Craig Duncan filled in for Butler, who has rushed for 1245 yards this season (177 yards per game). Duncan boosted the Wildcats with five carries for 107 yards and one touchdown, helping to keep Archbishop Murphy (3-0 in league, 8-0 overall) undefeated.

Teammates Chris Hoerauf packed in nine rushes for 90 yards and two touchdowns and Ben Waiss carried five times for 70 yards and two touchdowns.

Wildcats kicker Ben Fritsch successfully nailed seven of eight point-after-touchdown kick attempts.

Coupeville is now 0-3, 1-6.

Meridian 29, Lakewood 15: Meridian remained unbeaten in the North Cascades Conference late Friday, with the help of quarterback Jordan Slesk. Slesk passed for 249 yards and four touchdowns. Lakewood’s Brad Sears led the Cougars with 123 yards rushing.

Diving

Class 4A state-qualifying meet: Emily Martin of Kamiak and Brittany Berg of Marysville-Pilchuck both qualified for the Class 4A state diving championships on Saturday with point totals of 366.5 and 357.8 points, respectively. Both have also received All-American consideration for their performances at the weekend competition.
