Archbishop Murphy beats University City, 40-26

SAN DIEGO — Hans Vanderwel and the offensive line helped Archbishop Murphy to victory in San Diego 40-26 over University City. Vanderwel ran over 200 yards had a 95 yard kickoff return and some lights out hits on defense, according to Wildcats head coach Bill Marsh. Ricky Gordon also contributed to Archbishop Murphy’s early lead with a 20-yard fumble return and a 16-yard rushing TD.

“It is a great setting down here,” said Marsh. “We jumped off to a quick lead then pulled off the throttle a little and got a lot of kids in.”

UCHS ran the opening kickoff back for a touchdown, but Vanderwel muted their enthusiasm by answering back with a kickoff return of his own for a TD.
