Archbishop Murphy football team wins, improves to 2-0

TACOMA – Five Wildcat players totaled 206 yards rushing as the Archbishop Murphy High School football team, in its first year of existence, improved to 2-0 with a 18-14 win over Charles Wright Academy late Saturday.

Jevon Butler had 95 yards rushing, Nate Duell had 76 yards rushing and quarterback Axel Wolff scored two rushing touchdowns for the Wildcats.

The ground game and defense propelled Archbishop Murphy. Wildcat defender Tyler Terhar blocked two punts.

New Balance meet, girls: The Snohomish girls cross country squad of Jessica Culnane, Ashley Meyers, Amanda Mowers, Aimee Spada, Shelby Campbell and Jennifer Moreno led the Panthers to first place in the team scoring at the New Balance Festival of Champions meet in Oregon City, Ore., on Saturday.

The Marysville-Pilchuck girls finished eighth, led by senior Alicia Farmer’s 26th place finish overall at 20 minutes, 3.5 seconds, on the 3.1 mile course.

Culnane, a senior, finished in fifth place individually at 18:53.7, 24 seconds behind the winner. Meyers was ninth at 19:13.1.
