Archbishop Murphy girls lose to Prosser in quarterfinals

The Wildcats can’t keep up in the second half and fall 59-36 to the Mustangs.

Archbishop Murphy.

YAKIMA — For one half it looked like the Archbishop Murphy girls basketball team was in for a quarterfinal nail-biter against Prosser.

Then the wheels fell off for the Wildcats.

Leading by one at the break, 11th-seeded Prosser outscored No. 5 Archbishop Murphy 34-12 in the second half and cruised to a 59-36 win in a 2A Harwood Classic quarterfinal matchup on Thursday morning at the Yakima Valley SunDome.

Most of the Mustangs’ damage was done by 6-foot forward Halle Wright. The standout senior scored a game-high 27 points on 10-of-14 shooting and added nine rebounds.

Ava Marr scored a team-high 15 points for Archbishop Murphy, but the Wildcats struggled to find consistency on offense and shot just 27.3% from the field in the loss.

Taylor Campbell scored nine points, and Hannah Humphrey and Claire Esping had seven rebounds each for Archbishop Murphy (14-6), which will face No. 7 Washougal in a consolation game at 9 a.m. on Friday morning.

Prosser (19-6) advanced to the semifinals and will face No. 8 Burlington-Edison at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
