Chase Barrows is headed to Lithuania.
The recent Archbishop Murphy High School graduate and Everett Rowing Association alum was one of 53 individuals selected to represent the United States at the 2017 World Rowing Junior Championships, which take place this week in Trakai, Lithuania.
Barrows, who helped the ERA’s Men’s Varsity Eight qualify for the Youth National Championships in the spring, will sit in the second seat of the U.S.’s Men’s Eight at Worlds. Worlds begin Wednesday and continue through Sunday.
Barrows will row for the University of Washington beginning in the fall.
Locals helps Kirkland Merchants baseball claim title
Seven players from Snohomish County high schools were members of the Kirkland Merchants baseball team that claimed the Seattle Elite League 18U championship last week.
The Merchants finished the regular season 14-0 in the 32-team league, taking first place in the Central Division. Then they went 5-1 in the playoffs, including sweeping the best-of-three championship series against the Puyallup-based PC Diamond Jaxx with 10-3 and 9-4 victories last Wednesday and Thursday at Bannerwood Park in Bellevue.
The players from Snohomish County high schools on the team are Justin Folz (Monroe), Eric Pino (Monroe), Brian Pino (Monroe), Tyler Trewin (Monroe), Jackson Webber (Jackson), Niklas Lehtinen (Jackson) and Mason Milkey (Archbishop Murphy).
PSS lacrosse claims Cascade Cup
Seattle-based Puget Sound Select won the High School division of the Cascade Cup girls lacrosse tournament held over the weekend at Harvey Field in Snohomish. PSS won all five of its games, defeating True Idaho 9-4 in the championship match.
Issaquah-based Vand’al Lacrosse won the Middle School 7th, 8th division, and Seattle-based CitySideLax won the Middle School 4th, 5th, 6th division. The top Snohomish County performers were Snohomish High School, which reached the semifinals of the High School division, and Everett Lacrosse, which made the semis of the Middle Schol 7th, 8th division.
Flow Tour
Marysville resident Scott Callens took the top prize at Saturday’s USA Flow Tour pro-am held at the Snohomish Aquatic Center, finishing in first place in the Pro Flowboard category. The Pro Bodyboard division was won by Temecula, California’s Daniel Tarapchak.
Other winners included Jeremie Miller (Masters Flowboard 35+), Evan Campbell (Men’s Flowboard 18+), Andrew Anthony (Men’s Bodyboard 18+), Jonathan Hintz (Jr. Flowboard 13-17), Aidan Fox-Baily (Jr. Bodyboard 13-17), Kathryn Crowe (Female Flowboard), Adam Kenney (Adaptive Flow), and Orion Bellez (Youth Flowboard 12-under and Youth Bodyboard 12-under).
