Archbishop Murphy linebacker Sam Shober, who led a Wildcats defense that was a big part in Murphy’s run to the 2A state championship game, has been accepted to Stanford University, according to his father, Jeff Shober.
Jeff Shober said that the Cardinal football program has asked Sam to play football as a preferred walk-on.
“Needless to say we are all very proud of him and excited for his opportunity,” Jeff Shober wrote in an email to The Herald. “He has been recruited all along by the Stanford coaches and he’s really excited to be part of such a stellar recruiting class.”
Dave Ward, who coached Shober for all four years he played for the Wildcats, isn’t surprised his former player is headed to Stanford.
“Sam always wanted to play for Stanford,” Ward said. “He was a huge factor in our defensive success. He’d go sideline to sideline; pure effort.
“He plays the game with a lot of intelligence.”
